I was first elected to Derbyshire County Council in 2009 and as well as being Derbyshire Conservatives Chief Whip, I am also Cabinet Member for Economic Regeneration.
Our political style is to lead Derbyshire County Council and work as Partners alongside our highly professional employees who we charge with delivering excellent services for All, manage out inefficiencies where they continue to exist and keep costs down for Derbyshire tax payers.
I am responsible for Derbyshire's economic strategy and the County's infrastructure development plan, working closely with the Local Economic Partnership's, D2N2, and Sheffield City Region (SCR) on delivering our flagship Regeneration site, Markham Vale (opens in a new window) at junction 29 of the M1 motor-way, and with Local Planning Authorities on their core strategies.
As Vice Chairman of the Derbyshire Economic Partnership, a private sector led board, I work alongside forward thinking, dedicated business leaders on supporting business and skills, creating jobs, and instrumental in establishing Derbyshire’s inward investment service. http://investinderbyshire.org.uk (opens in a new window)
Locally, I have lived in the Greater Heanor Division since 1994, after leaving the British Army following an engineering career where I benefited from many operational tours in some of the most challenging situations faced by different global communities during the 1980's and 90's.
Today, I remain committed to ensuring that all communities across Greater Heanor are proud to live here because they feel safe in their homes, on our streets and recognise that the services we deliver are value for money.
I started my political career in 2003 with Amber Valley Borough Council, where I hold a cabinet support role as Special Advisor for Regeneration and am very proud to be leading on Heanor's Town Centre Regeneration Master Plan which since 2009 has secured £24 million investment, but more still needs to be achieved for our Town.
